MALAYSIA CUP: ATM 1 - KELANTAN 2
Kelantan took a big step in the Malaysia Cup semi-final after a 2-1 win over ATM at the Selayang Stadium tonight. The defending champions will only need just a draw in the second leg match in Kota Bharu to qualify into the final.
Kelantan looked very confident from the start despite playing an away game. Meanwhile ATM was without suspended central defender Amirizdwan Taj Tajuddin. It took just 15 minutes for Kelantan's skipper, Mohd Badhri Radzi to punish the home side unsettled defence. The goal increased the pressure on ATM.
However, Christie Jayaseelan equalised four minutes later. The young Gladiator hit a low shot pass Khairul Fahmi Che Mat after taking the ball past Shakir Saari. Both teams went into the break with the score tied at 1-1.
Kelantan continue to pressure the home team right after the match resumed. They created a series of opportunities but striker Dickson Nwakaeme was tightly marked by ATM defenders.
Suddenly, in the 78th minute, the Red Warriors took the lead again with a brilliant goal by Mohd Norfarhan Mohd. The 2013 FA Cup final winning goal scorer turned hero again with a brilliant goal after a slip by Irwan Fadzli Idrus.
Despite conceding 2 goals, ATM goalkeeper Farizal Harun played a good game where he saved a number of attempts by Kelantan's forwards. ATM increased their attacks after that goal, but they just failed to find the net.
