LIGA SUPER: FELDA UNITED 2 - JDT 1
Felda United beat Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) 2-1 but could not deny the Southern Tigers from claiming the Malaysia Super League title at Selayang Stadium last Saturday. It is the second consecutive Super League victory for JDT after their closest rival, Pahang failed to collect any point in Kuala Terengganu.
Felda took an early lead when Shahrul Saad headed in Zah Rahan Krangar cross just four minutes after the kick-off. Five minutes later, JDT were reduced to ten men after Junior Eldstal was sent off after fouling Ndumba Makeche inside the penalty area. Indra Putra Mahayuddin later converted the penalty and put Felda in comfort with 2 goals lead.
JDT however pulled the game back when Luciano Figueroa reduced the deficit in 35th minute through a penalty after Christie Jayaseelan handed the ball inside the penalty area. Felda United managed to hold the visitors until the end to earn full points at Selayang and put them in fifth for their best ever result in Super League competition.
Retaining the Malaysia Super League title is very special for Mario Gomes who had only taken the job for just five month. In addition, the Southern Tigers also bagged RM750,000-00 for winning the league.
