FORLAN WANTS MORE SOUTH AMERICAN TEAMS

Diego Forlan hopes Uruguay avoid Argentina in the last 16 of the World Cup, but only because he wants more South American teams to reach the quarter-finals.

Uruguay are well placed to progress to the second round of the competition after following up their goalless draw against France with a crushing 3-0 success over hosts South Africa in Group A.

Argentina have virtually progressed beyond Group B after back-to-back wins while a draw for Uruguay in their final group match against Mexico would guarantee top spot.

That means the sides will not face each other in the last 16 providing Argentina clinch first place. Forlan has no qualms with going head-to-head with Argentina, but feels the match would be a waste in the second round.
