PREMIER LEAGUE: ARSENAL 1 - TOTTENHAM 0
Tottenham Hotspurs 100 per cent start to the season crushed at the Emirates Stadium yesterday. A goal from Olivier Giroud hands Arsenal a 1-0 victory over Spurs in the north London derby.
The in-form Giroud expertly turned home a low cross from Theo Walcott in the 23rd with Hugo Lloris beaten for pace at his near post. Andre Villas-Boas' expensively-assembled squad tried to respond form that goal, but couldn't find the much needed equaliser. But the Gunners were forced to make a substitution just before half-time when midfielder Jack Wilshere picked-up an injury. He was replaced by Mathieu Flamini.
Spurs played the second half livelier, but they failed to really test the Arsenal defence. The home side struggled to find fluency, as the tempo was interrupted by a string of grumble fouls from both sides. The score stands until full time for Arsenal to earn the bragging rights.
