MALAYSIA CUP: JDT 4 - KELANTAN 2
Johor Darul Takzim took the advantage in the first leg of the Malaysia Cup quarter final by winning 4-2 over Kelantan at Tan Sri Dato' Haji Hassan Yunos Stadium in Johor Bahru yesterday. The win is very important for the star studded JDT before they play their second leg in Kota Bharu next Saturday.
Kelantan arrived in Johor Bahru fresh from their 4-0 win over Pahang last week. However, they failed to deliver the good performances as in their previous match Kota Bharu.
JDT didn't take too long to open the scoring when Jazsarin Jamaluddin found the net just four minutes after the whistle. As Kelantan was trying to get their game tempo right, controversial striker Nor Shahrul Idlan Talaha added JDT's second of the night in the 20th minute.
Indra Putra Mahayuddin pulled a goal back for the visitors in the 23rd minute. But his goal couldn't lift his team as JDT found the net again in the 38th minute through Safiq Rahim. JDT headed into the break with an impressive 3-1 lead over Kelantan.
The Red Warriors came on into the second half with more positive approach. Obinna Nwaneri reduced the deficit with a second goal for Kelantan after 3 minutes the match resumed.
Kelantan doubled their efforts to find the equaliser, but JDT held on bravely. In the 82nd minute, JDT import Leonel Nunez scored their fourth goal to ensure that they are carrying sufficient aggregates for the second led in Kelantan.
