PAHANG LIFTS THE MALAYSIA CUP AFTER 21 YEARS

MALAYSIA CUP FINAL: KELANTAN 0 - PAHANG 1

A goal by Mathias Conti was enough for Pahang to lift the prestigious Malaysia Cup after 21-year wait. The Elephants entered the final as the underdogs but they completed their 2013 season with a victory over defending champions Kelantan 1-0 in a pulsating final.

The Shah Alam Stadium was packed with both Kelantan and Pahang supporters. It was a dream comes true as Pahang, under the guidance of coach Dollah Salleh. No big names in their side and none had experienced a Cup final before.

Facing the Red Warriors with star names and had played in four finals in the last five years, Pahang fought out for total control in the first half. The heavy downpour early in the match did not help both teams in finding the net.

As the second half resumed, Pahang maintained their good performance to press Kelantan further. Argentinian Conti sent the yellow-shirted fans into frenzy when his powerful header from Azamuddin's cross sailed into the back of the net in the 59th minute. That goal was enough to send their supporters into celebrations.

Kelantan tried to fine tune their play but it was just not their night. The put on the pressure on Pahang in the last 10 minutes looking for an equaliser, but Pahang was rock solid to hold on with the lead until the final whistle.

It is a sweet victory for Pahang who have waited for 21 years to taste this feeling. Azamuddin Akil was also chosen to be man of the match as icing on the cake for Pahang.
