UEFA SUPER CUP: BAYERN MUNICH 2(5) - CHELSEA 2(4)
Bayern Munich won the UEFA Super Cup with a 5-4 penalty shoot-out victory over Chelsea following a 2-2 draw at Stadion Eden, Prague.
It was a repeat of the 2012 UEFA Champions League final, and the match was almost similar to the original as Bayern had the most possession. However, this time it was the Blues who opened the scoring through Fernando Torres with a wonderful first-time strike from Andre Schurrle's cut-back following a swift counter-attack.
Bayern dominated after the goal, but they had to wait until the second period to level when UEFA Best Player in Europe Franck Ribery succeeded where he had narrowly failed in the first period. The Frenchman cut in from the left before scoring with a fierce right-foot shot.
Ramires' 85th-minute red card gave Bayern the numerical advantage for extra time, but after Eden Hazard restored Chelsea's lead it took a last-gasp Javi MartÃnez strike to take the encounter to penalties. There Manuel Neuer saved the decisive kick from Romelu Lukaku to ensure Josep Guardiola collected the trophy for a third time as coach.
