MALAYSIA SUPER LEAGUE: SARAWAK 0 - SELANGOR 2

After triumph over Kelantan at Shah Alam last Saturday, Selangor put up a boost for Super League title challenge after getting three value points against Sarawak at State Stadium last night with 2-0 win.

Indonesian star player, Andik Verman Shah put Selangor on the lead with his powerful shot in 24th minutes before A. Thamil Arasu seal the victory in 53rd minutes. With this win, Selangor are now in third with 16 points together with Pahang and Terengganu only differ by goal different.

JOHOR DT TAKES THREE POINTS FROM KELANTAN

MALAYSIA SUPER LEAGUE: KELANTAN 1 - JOHOR DT 2

Kelantan were slump to 6th place in the Super League standings after being whip by Johor DT at Sultan Mohd IV Stadium, for the second defeat in the row yesterday.

The Red Warriors open the score with a goal from Mohd Ghaddar in 18th minute. However, Mohd Amri Yahyah levels the score in 35th minutes to take the result 1-1 until end of first half.

With the game looks to set for a draw, Luciano Figueroa fed the ball to Fazly Mazlan and it didn’t cost much for Fazly to find the net and sent Kelantan and the home crowds in devastating after having two games without collecting any single points.

LAUREUS UNITY CUP: ALL STARS BACK IN ACTION

Football legends returned to the pitch for a star-studded charity football match in Malaysia, as part of the 2014 Laureus World Sports Awards. The Laureus All Stars Unity Cup was held at the Royal Selangor Club in Kuala Lumpur.

Italian football manager Fabio Capello and retired Danish footballer Michael Laudrup fielded the two teams, featuring world-class footballers Ronald de Boer, Quinton Fortune, Paulo Ferreira, Gaizka Mendieta, Luis Milla and Michel Salgado, Hidetoshi Nakata and Jari Litmanen.

Before kickoff, a moment of silence was observed for the families and loved ones of the victims the lost Malaysia Airlines flight MH370. Playing together with local youth players, it was a close fight between the two teams, but in the end Team Laureus took home a 8-6 victory against Team YR1M.

The match was also attended by Khairy Jamaluddin, the Sports Minister of Malaysia, and Dr Edwin Moses, the Chairman of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. Laureus and Yayasan Rakyat 1Malaysia (YR1M) jointly announced an innovative partnership to benefit young people in Malaysia through the use of sport.

SELANGOR CLAIMS FIRST WIN IN SHAH ALAM

MALAYSIA SUPER LEAGUE: SELANGOR 1 - KELANTAN 0

Selangor is back on winning form after edging Kelantan 1-0 at Shah Alam Stadium on Saturday night. It was a perfect starts on their return to the original home ground.

The win sent Selangor to the top spot of Malaysia Super League with Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang, sharing the lead with 13 points each after yesterday's matches.

Kelantan gave the home side an early scare by earning a penalty in the 20th minute. However, Forkey Doe had his penalty saved by Selangor goalkeeper Farizal Marlias.

Just two minutes later, Selangor was awarded a penalty too. Paulo Rangel made no mistake from the spot to score his eighth league goal of the season. The goal was enough to give the Red Giants their first win in more than a month.

POLICE DROPS FIRST POINTS AGAINST FELDA

MALAYSIA PREMIER LEAGUE: FELDA UTD 3 - PDRM 3

Premier League leader, PDRM ended their perfect run with a 3-3 draw against Felda United at Selayang Stadium ofn Friday. It was a thrilling Premier League match where the Police needed a penalty to salvage a draw.

PDRM looked like running away for an easy win over the homeside, taking 2-0 lead after 30 minutes as Felda struggled to cope with the Cops. Maldives international, Ashfaq Ali opened scoring with a clinical finish in the 11th minute after receiving a long ball from Rafael Souza. Chad Charles Souza doubled the lead in the 30th minute when he converted an opportunity after Felda's goalkeeper Farizal stopped Rafael’s header.

Shahrulnizam Mustafa pulled Felda back into the game when he launched a powerful header past Police keeper Azizon Kadir from a Indra Putra's corner in first half injury time.

Felda United came out for the second half breathing fire, Indra Putra Mahyuddin found the net after his fierce drive from outside the box took a deflection off Rafael before going in to make it 2-2 in the 56th minute. Felda were on fire and took a 3-2 lead on 70 minutes. A corner by Indra found under fire Liberian striker Edward Wilson who rose high to send a dipping header into the Police net.

PDRM earned a penalty in the 78th minute when Hasriq Baharom fell Ashfaq inside the box during a goalmouth melee after Alafi Mahmud’s attempt came off the right upright. Ashfaq picked himself up to slot his second for the night and take his personal tally to seven goals. Despite the draw Police, who have game in hand over Penang, retained their place at the top on goal difference with 19 points each.

PKNS SCORES THREE AGAINST T-TEAM

MALAYSIA SUPER LEAGUE: PKNS FC 3 - T-TEAM 1

Azrai Khor believed that his T-Team players displayed a below par performance at Selayang Stadium which resulted in a defeat against PKNS FC in their latest Malaysia Super League (MSL) fixture. Despite coming into the game fresh off from a win in their previous match, T-Team failed find their rhythm and ended up losing 3-1 away from home.

PKNS's three goals were scored by Shahrul Azhar and Helmi Remeli in the first half, while Khairul Azrin scored the third goal in the second half.  Titans got their consolation thru Marzuki Yusof's goal.

The defeat has put T-Team bottom of the table as they suffered their fourth defeat of the season, and also puts PKNS FC in the top four after collecting 11 points in seven games.  They now sit just two points behind league leaders Terengganu.

JDT PICKS THREE POINTS FROM SIME DARBY

MALAYSIA SUPER LEAGUE: SIME DARBY 0 - JOHOR DT 2

Two goals in the first half by the Argentine striker Luciano Figueroa (23rd) and Norshahrul Idlan Talaha (31st) at the Selayang Stadium last Saturday night, moves Johor DT into second spot in the Super League standings.

The Southern Tigers dominated the the match from kick-off and put the pressure on the home team. Figueroa sent a beautiful free kick to give JDT the lead, before Norshahrul doubled the lead.

As Sime Darby tried to recover from the bad start, the Giant Killer faced another blow in the second half, Dilshod Sharofetdinov was given his marching orders after receiving his second yellow card in the 62nd minute of the match. The score stood until the final whistle without any goal in the second half.

JOHOR DT II TAKES A POINT FROM FELDA UNITED

MALAYSIA PREMIER LEAGUE: FELDA UTD 2 - JOHOR DT II 2

Johor DT II had a great start when Braulio Rodriguez netted a penalty after See Kok Luen was brought down inside the penalty box at the 11th minutes. Both sides struggled to dominate the game but the home side proved better.  Felda United had a good chance to equalize during the 29th minutes when Felda’s forward, Zah Krangar shot was swerved wide across Sasi Kumar’s post. Then, during the 35th minutes, Johor DTII was alarmed as Edward Wilson of Felda United almost headed the ball in. However, the Southern Tigers managed to stave the relentless attacks until the end of the first half.

The second half had followed a frustratingly familiar course with Johor DTII was unable to helm the match. Tiger’s smattering counter attacks were wasted and Felda United did not take long to equalize when Felda’s Edward Wilson stroke the ball pass Sasi Kumar due to the poor marking by the Johor DTII’s back four. Johor DTII fell behind in unlucky circumstances when Khairul Ismail fired the ball in from the six yards box giving Sasi Kumar no chance at the 65th minutes.

Thankfully, the fast winger, Aznie Taib equalized during the 77th minutes to save Johor DTII’s dignity at Selayang. Aznie’s breakaway managed to put in a late goal for the Tigers to bring a point home. Fandi Ahmad of Johor DTII had a chance to score a winning goal but his fierce shot was well wide passed Felda’s goal post. At the end of the match, both teams had to satisfy with a point each at Selayang Stadium.

YEMEN FELL PREY TO MALAYSIAN TIGERS

ASIAN CUP QUALIFYING: YEMEN 1 - MALAYSIA 2

Playing with 10-man for almost the entire match, Malaysia pulled off an amazing result by beating Yemen 2-1 in a Group D 2015 Asian Cup Qualifying match at the Tahnon Bin Mohamed Stadium in Al Ain City, Dubai yesterday.

Amirizwan Taj Tajudin was shown a straight red for what looked like nothing more than a mild tangle with a Yemen striker Sadam Hussein and Yemen were also awarded a dubious penalty by the referee. Though, Wahid Mohammed Al-khyat's tame spot kick was saved by Khairul Fahmi Che Mat.

The Harimau Malaya who were reduced to 10-man before the 10th minute played like real tigers to shock the Yemen side with Amri Yahya put Malaysia infront in the 16th minute. While Yemen lamented their missed chances, Amri shocked the home fans by giving Malaysia the lead.

The lead remained intact until the 60th minute before Mohammed Al-Sarori equalised with a clinical finish after a defence splitting pass from his skipper Ala Mohammed Abdullah Al-Sasi.

 

However, Yemen's joy was short-lived when Ahmad Fakri Shaarani scored a cheeky goal in the 76th minute to ensure all three points.

PHILIPPINES HELD MALAYSIA IN FRIENDLY MATCH

FRIENDLY MATCH: MALAYSIA 0 - PHILIPPINES 0

Flares, smoke bombs disrupted of Malaysia-Philippines friendly. The match was stopped for eight minutes by Referee Mohd Amirul Izwan Yaacob after flares and smoke bombs were thrown onto the track on Saturday night.

The match ended in a goalless draw. Malaysia was very unfortunate in the “A” international friendly which saw a valid goal from Amiridzwan Taj's header in the 14th minute disallowed for handball, while attempts by Aidil Zafuan (15th), Safiq Rahim (16th) and Amri Yahyah (18th) were all denied by the woodwork.

Before the eight-minute interruption, Malaysia were dominating the game and looked much more dangerous with winger Amri combining well with strikers Safee Sali and Bobby Gonzales to press the Philippines' backline.

Malaysia returned for the second half and looked much more enterprising under the guidance of Ong Kim Swee, who handed goalkeeper Mohd Khairulazhan Mohd Khalid and midfielder Mohd Hafiz Kamal their first cap.

The Philippines was denied for a penalty in the 90th minute after defender Mohd Asraruddin brought down Jason De Jong. The Philippines played a solid defensive game to extend Malaysia's winless record against them to three matches.

AREMA TAKES A POINT FROM SELANGOR IN AFC CUP

AFC CUP: SELANGOR 1 - AREMA 1

Arema Indonesia salvaged a point from their AFC Cup Group F opener against Selangor as a late goal by Nigeria-born Indonesia international defender Victor Igbonefo earned them a 1-1 draw against the Malaysia side at Selayang Stadium on Tuesday.

There was a lively atmosphere during the match with fans of both teams providing vocal support well before kick-off. Arema enjoyed early good possession but they were caught out in the ninth minute when the home side broke quickly with Indonesian forward Andik Vermansyah playing a delightful through ball to Paulo Rangel, who drilled the ball past Arema goalkeeper Kurnia Meiga Hermansyah to give his side the lead.

Abdul Shukur squandered the Red Giants' best chance in the 52nd minute when he shot wide after finding himself in a one-on-one situation with Hermansyah. That miss would prove costly when the visitors equalised with 17 minutes left. They were awarded a free-kick on the left flank and Bustomi curled in a delightful ball that grazed Igbonefo's head on its way into the net. While there was disappointment for Durakovic, Arema coach Suharno felt that his side deserved a share of the points.

KELANTAN HOLDS PKNS FOR SEMIFINAL SPOT

FA CUP: PKNS FC 3(5) - KELANTAN 3(6)

Kelantan moved into the FA Cup semifinals after getting the needed results in their second leg quarterfinal matches. The Defending Champions were held to a 3-3 draw in Selayang by a gritty PKNS FC, but the result was enough to send them into the last four with 6-5 on aggregate, after winning the first leg in Kota Baru 3-2.

The Red Warriors (TRW) were dragged into full throttle by PKNS in the thriller at MPS Stadium. The match could have gone into extra-time but striker Mohamed Ghaddar’s wrapped it on time. The Lebanese netted Kelantan’s third goal after PKNS had taken a 3-2 lead with 19 minutes remaining, through a header by Indonesian defender Hamka Zakaria.

The Red Ants got off to a roaring start, grabbing the lead in the second minute through Patrick Ronaldinho, which neutralised Kelantan’s one-goal cushion from the first leg. Steve Darby’s men were not rattled by the goal and a freekick from skipper Mohd Badhri Radzi found Ahmad Fakri Saarani, whose glancing header hit the back of the PKNS net, past a stunned Remezey Che Ros.

Kelantan took the lead in the 26th minute through a volley from Shakir Ali, again after Badhri set him up, but it was 2-2 at halftime when Ronaldinho was brought down inside the box by Obinna Nwaneri and Karlo Primorac did not make any mistake from the spot. Hamka then made it count with a header in the 71st minute but Ghaddar popped up to make sure the match was decided in normal time. Kelantan will play Felda United to decide who marches in to the final.

SIME DARBY AND PKNS GET A POINT EACH AT SELAYANG

MALAYSIA SUPER LEAGUE: SIME DARBY 0 - PKNS 0

Sime Darby FC failed to benefit from their home ground advantage after being held by PKNS FC on Friday. The match at the MPS Stadium in Selayang saw both team failed to find the net. The home side started with Mahmoud Al Amna and Wisdom Agblexo in the line-up. Though they failed to grab the winner throughout the 90 minutes.

PKNS Karlo Primorac was largely isolated without strike partner Patrick Ronaldinho. The Liberian was left out of the line-up after picking up a knock in the FA Cup match against Kelantan in Kota Baru last Tuesday. 

Midfielder Nazmi Faiz Mansor was also absent through suspension. PKNS had the better of the goalscoring chances and were unlucky not to collect three points from the match.

LIONS TAKE FULL POINTS FROM ATM

MALAYSIA SUPER LEAGUE: ATM 1 - LIONS XII 2

ATM failed to claim three vital points when they lost 1-2 to the Lions XII at Selayang Stadium on Saturday. 

ATM started perfectly with an early goal. The Gladiators took the lead as early as in the fourth minute when Amiridzwan Taj found the net.

Second half turned alright for the Lions. They were more dangerous in the attacks. Lions equalized from Khairul Amri goal in the 47th minute before Afiq Yunos scored the winning goal in the last minute of the match.

IT'S GOALLESS IN SELAYANG

FA CUP: FELDA UNITED 0 - SARAWAK 0

Felda United hosted Sarawak in one of the FA Cup quarterfinal clash at the MPS Selayang Stadium last night. Despite playing on home ground, Felda failed to find the winner. It was the Crocs defenders who played amazingly. 

The home side launched numerous attacks against their visitors from the kick-off. However, the match was pretty balanced in the first half. 

Felda returned to the field with a more commanding approach. They had a better posession throughout the second half. Sarawak also had a few opportunities on Felda's goal, but they just could not find the net. The score remained until full time and the winner will be decided in the second leg match in Kuching.

RANGEL'S BRACE SENDS SELANGOR BACK ON TOP

MALAYSIA SUPER LEAGUE: SIME DARBY 1 - SELANGOR 2

 

Paulo Rangel sends Selangor back on top of the Malaysia Super League after scoring a brace against Sime Darby last night.

Though, Selangor did not start well as they conceded first when Sime Darby's Mohd Failee opened the scoring in the second minute. The Sime Darby forward completed a cross from Farderin Kadir.

Selangor took sometimes before they really got into the game. Paulo Rangel finally levelled the score for the Red Giants as he easily slotted in for the equaliser in the 40th minute.

Both team returned for the second-half and the search for a winner carried on. Mehmet Durokovic made a tactical change in the 75th minute. Abdul Hadi Yahya and Andik Vermanshah were sent it and Selangor's tempo immediately changed. 

Rangel grabbed the winner for Selangor with a powerful header in the 84th minute after receiving from Abdul Hadi. It is his fifth goal of the season and the Red Giants are looking good on top of the table again.

SUPER CROCS TAKE DOWN RED ANTS

MALAYSIA SUPER LEAGUE: PKNS 0 vs SARAWAK 2

 

Sarawak continued their good run by defeating PKNS at Selayang Stadium. The Crocs did not wait long when striker, Milorad Janjus opened the scoring less than 10 minute after kick-off.

The home side was stunned with another goal by away team just 5 minute later, and this time the Sarawak defender, Gabor Gyepes found the net after receiving a pass in the mess situation in front PKNS goalpost. PKNS created a few chances but failed to convert any of it until the break.

As the second half started, both teams played in same tempo. Both team created opportunities to score goal but failed in their attempt. The result remained until the end.  Winning two consecutive away games including beating Selangor in the FA Cup at MBPJ Stadium last week is good sign for Sarawak.

SIME DARBY FA CUP HOPES HALTED BY FELDA

MALAYSIA FA CUP: SIME DARBY 0 - FELDA UNITED 1

 

Sime Darby was eliminated from the FA Cup this season after losing 0-1 to Felda United at their home ground last night. The home side was without a few regular players including Juzaili and Mahmoud due to injuries.

Felda United took the advantage with a strong start. They had more control in the midfield and set-up a number of dangerous threats inside Sime Darby area. Sime Darby held on tightly to escape the first half without conceding any goal.

The home side came into the second half with a more organized plays. However, Felda United looked steady to absorb all attempts by their opponents. 

Both team had same share of possession in the second half. Though, it was a big risk to name a young line-up in a competition like this. Felda United manager, Irfan Bakti added more experience into his squad by sending in Indra Putra in the 70th minute.

Felda finally broke the deadlock in the 83rd minute when Zah Rahan Krangar launched a screamer from outside the penalty area to beat Kamarul Effandi. Sime Darby tried to find the equalizer after the goal, but Felda United had more experienced players to keep the score until the final whitle.

LIONS FALLS TO PAHANG AT HOME

MALAYSIA FA CUP: LIONS XII 1 - PAHANG 2

After a dramatic win against Perak in 1st round with penalty shootout at Ipoh, Pahang has turned the heat in FA Cup competition with a style after destroying Lions XII at Jalan Besar Stadium with 2-1 score.

 

Pahang could have got an early goal in first half but the chances were blown away. A combination strikes from Fauzi Roslan and Matias Conti in 19th minute were denied by Lions XII goalkeeper Izwan Mahbud. Twelve minute later, Azamuddin Akil launched a fine shot but saved by the keeper.  The first-half ended goalless.

 

Pahang broke the deadlock with a free kick from Hafiz Kamal in 51st minute and Azidan Sharudin makes it 2-0 four minutes later with a fine shot from outside the penalty area.

 

Trailing by 2 goals, The Lions XII raised their game. In 86th minute, Safuan Baharudin reduced the deficit when his free kick was deflected by Khairul Azhan and went straight into the net, making it 2-1. The lions try to level the score but Pahang manage to hold the result until the end.

 

With this win, Pahang advanced to the quarter final stage as for The Lions, they will have to wait for another year to stand a chance. Waiting for Pahang at quarter finals are winners from PDRM vs Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang.
