NOW SCOLARI WANT ANOTHER STRIKER

Chelsea coach Luiz Felipe Scolari will ask owner Roman Abramovich for
the cash to sign a striker in the January transfer window. Scolari has
only one fit striker for the Premier League game against Bolton
Wanderers with Didier Drogba suspended and Franco Di Santo sidelined
by a hamstring injury.

Chief executive Peter Kenyon has insisted Chelsea will do little, if
any, business when the window opens next month but Scolari has his
eyes on some much-needed firepower in attack.

ROSICKY OUT UNTIL MARCH

Arsenal have ruled midfielder Tomas Rosicky out of action until March
''at the earliest'' after the Czech star underwent surgery on the
problem in Germany a month ago.The Czech Republic international has
been out with a damaged hamstring tendon since January and has made a
slower than expected recovery, after originally being told his injury
would be cured in "days, not weeks".

Rosicky missed the European Championships for his country, with the
nature of the problem requiring multiple operations. He is due to
report back to Arsenal later this month but manager Arsene Wenger
admits it will be some time before the 27-year-old will be ready to
play again.

BARCELONA 4 - VALENCIA 0

Barcelona went six points clear at the top of La Liga after brushing aside the challenge of title hopefuls Valencia. A hat-trick from Thierry Henry and a third from Daniel Alves wrapped things up for Barca at the Camp Nou as they pulled further away from second placed Villarreal.

It was former Arsenal striker Henry who put Barcelona on their way to victory with two goals inside eight first half minutes. And Henry completed his hat-trick when substitute Bojan Krkic ghosted into the area and cut the ball back for the striker to tap home from close range.

MAN UTD 1 - SUNDERLAND 0

Nemanja Vidic snatched a dramatic 1-0 victory for Manchester United in Sunderland's first game since the departure of Roy Keane. The Black Cats, who had fallen into the bottom three after losing five of their last six games, looked set to be rewarded for a spirited display with a vital point.

They had withstood everything United had thrown at them, while Cristiano Ronaldo had also been forced off due to injury midway through the second half. However, Vidic turned the ball home in the first minute of injury-time to keep United six points behind league leaders Liverpool.

BOLTON 0 - CHELSEA 2

Nicolas Anelka struck the 99th goal of his Premier League career to help Chelsea to a 2-0 win and place in the record books. On his old Bolton stamping ground 11 months after a £15million move, a diving header from Anelka gave the Blues an 11th consecutive away win in the league, with eight this season.

Deco's sumptuous scissor-kick 12 minutes later sealed the victory as Chelsea rewrite the record set 48 years ago by Bill Nicholson's Tottenham side. With leaders Liverpool winning at Blackburn, the win keeps Chelsea hot on the heels of the Merseyside club at the top of the table.

ARSENAL 1 - WIGAN 0

Arsenal recorded back-to-back Premier League victories for the first time since October as Emmanuel Adebayor's first-half strike against Wigan Athletic proved decisive at Emirates Stadium.

The Togo international hit the woodwork prior to the interval and Denilson then also hit the post as Arsenal aimed to seal the win. Wigan enjoyed the better of the first period but were dealt a setback as Adebayor netted on 16 minutes to set the Gunners on course to build on last weekend's win at Chelsea.

BLACKBURN 1- LIVERPOOL 3

Liverpool recorded an unconvincing 3-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park to increase the pressure on manager Paul Ince. Xabi Alonso opened the scoring for the away side in the 68th minute and Yossi Benayoun looked to have secured the points just ten minutes later.

Roque Santa Cruz got a consolation goal in the 86th minute only for Steven Gerrard to have the last word in stoppage time. The first half had promised very little, except a fantastic 30-yard drive from Morten Gamst Pedersen that struck the bar.

KAKA POSITIVE ON BECKHAM ARRIVAL

Kaka believe that LA Galaxy David Beckham can really give a lot to AC Milan and contribute to the team to win the Scudetto and the UEFA Cup. The AC Milan playmaker was referring to the club's decision to sign Beckham on a short-term loan deal in the winter transfer window.

The England midfielder will join the Rossoneri in January for two months before returning to the Los Angeles Galaxy. Kaka is firmly against the idea of people who believe Beckham's arrival will be a negative thing. Kaka is currently a target of a few Premier League clubs, especially Manchester City. The english-speaking Brazillian had also recently expressed his interest to play in England.

WENGER CONFIDENT OF EDUARDO RETURN

Gunners boss, Arsene Wenger believes it will not be long before Eduardo's return to action for Arsenal. The Brazilian-born Croatia striker suffered an horrific broken leg following a hard challenge from Martin Taylor at Birmingham in February.

However, the 25-year-old is now closing in on a return to competitive action with the Gunners. Wenger also confirmed that Eduardo has started to join full training and just waiting for the right game.

RONALDO ALMOST A GUNNERS

Portugal winger Cristiano Ronaldo was poised to join Arsenal before he accepted an offer to sign for Manchester United in 2003. The winger, recently crowned European Footballer of the Year, has admitted his admiration for Gunners' boss Arsene Wenger and revealed how close he came to becoming part of the squad at the Emirates.

However, United's offer of £12.24 million was three times that of Arsenal's, and Sporting Lisbon had no choice but to accept.  Ronaldo said that he met Arsene on three occasions and one of those times was with his mum who wanted to hear what the Gunners' boss was proposing. Since then, Wenger remains someone that he admired and believes that the french manager is a really intelligent football guy.

LAMPARD WANTS CHELSEA TO TRY DIFFERENT STYLES

Chelsea may have to ''mix things up'' to get themselves back on track in the title race according to Frank Lampard. The defeat to Arsenal last weekend makes Luiz Felipe Scolari's men have failed to beat any of their top three rivals at home.

The Blues are already out of the Carling Cup and need to beat CFR Cluj next week to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League. Lampard, though, believes the Blues have got plenty of different options to get the job done.

MAN UTD 5 - BLACKBURN 3

Carlos Tevez seized his opportunity to fire Manchester United to a 5-3 victory against Blackburn and reach the Carling Cup semi-finals. With his Old Trafford future at stake, Tevez has no regard for the fixture backlog piling up for Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Argentinian scored a total of 4 goals after Nani scoring the second goal of the night. Carlos Tevez hailed a night to remember as he claimed the first four-goal haul of his career.

RONALDO WINS 2008 BALLON d'OR

Cristiano Ronaldo is celebrating ''one of the most beautiful days of
my life'' after being award the prestigious Ballon d'Or on Tuesday.
The Manchester United and Portugal winger who inspired United to the
Champions League and Premier League double this year, was named as the
World Player of The Year ahead of Barcelona's Lionel Messi and
Liverpool striker Fernando Torres.

77 out of 96 top journalists voted Ronaldo as their number one player
this year and every one placed him in their top five after he scored
42 goals in United's trophy-laden season. He polled an impressive 446
points from a maximum 480, finishing comfortably ahead of
second-placed Messi (281) and third-placed Torres (179).

The 23-year-old becomes the third Portuguese player to lift the famous
trophy, after legendary pair Eusebio and Luis Figo. Beside being the
first Premier League player since Michael Owen in 2001 to land the
award, Ronaldo also becomes the fourth Red Devil to take the gong
after Denis Law (1964), Bobby Charlton (1966) and George Best (1968).

BURNLEY 2 - ARSENAL 0

Burnley march into the semi-finals of a major competition for the
first time in the 25 years with a marvellous performance in a 2-0 win
over Arsenal at Turf Moor. Kevin McDonald ensure the Coca-Cola
Championship team booked their place in the last four of the Carling
Cup after showing the young Gunners how to finish.

The Lancashire club also had to thank goalkeeper Brian Jensen, who
made a string of fine saves to keep his side in front. Arsenal almost
took the lead when Fran Merida released Nicklas Bendtner. However
Jensen stayed alert and diverted the striker's effort to safety.

McDonald scored either side of half-time in the match that was locally
billed as `Capital Punishment III'. Chelsea and Fulham were also put
to the sword in previous rounds

DROGBA FULLY COMMITTED TO CHELSEA

Didier Drogba's agent insists the player never met anyone from Inter
Milan last month. Drogba was reported to have attended a dinner with
Inter's sporting director Marco Branca and Jorge Mendes, agent of
Nerazzuri coach Jose Mourinho.

Chelsea have refused to comment on the reports, as has Drogba, but now
Thierno Seydi has stated that no meeting took place. Seydi insists
that Drogba is fully committed to the Chelsea cause.

VAN PERSIE DENY GALLAS ROW

Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has refuted claims that he is the
disruptive influence in the Gunners dressing room identified by
William Gallas in tirade which cost the Frenchman the captain's
armband.

Manager Arsene Wenger was left with little choice but to replace
Gallas after last month's outburst in which the defender branded his
team-mates ''not brave enough'' and accused an unnamed 25-year-old of
undermining the squad with his behaviour. However, 25-year-old Van
Persie, who scored both goals in Arsenal's impressive 2-1 win over
Chelsea at the weekend, is confident he is not the target of Gallas'
criticism.

GERRARD EYES TITLE GLORY

Steven Gerrard believes Liverpool's unwavering support is deserving of
a Premier League title. The Reds have gone 18 long years since they
last claimed the top-flight crown, with countless false dawns failing
to bring the desired result.

However, with the club leading the way 15 games into the current
campaign, there is a growing sense of optimism on Merseyside that this
may be the year that barren spell comes to an end. Influential club
captain Gerrard is certainly hoping that proves to be the case, with
the England international desperate to give the Anfield faithful
something to shout about.

LIVERPOOL 0 - WEST HAM 0

Liverpool failed to take full advantage on the stumbles by Chelsea
after being held to a 0-0 draw with West Ham at Anfield. Striker
Fernando Torres was sidelined again with injury, the Reds seem
struggling to get the goal that they needed.

The homeside started well with more posessions but striker Robbie
Keane and Dirk Kuyt just couldn't find the net. Former Liverpool
player, Craig Bellamy also showed that he is still dangerous in West
Ham colours. Ryan Babel was brought in after 78th minutes, but failed
to produce the goal for the league leader. West Ham Robert Green was
outstanding to deny a series of Liverpool's goal attemps. Despite the
draw, Reds are now leading the Premier League with 1 point over
Chelsea.

CHELSEA 1 - ARSENAL 2

A dramatic second-half Robin van Persie brace saw Arsenal come from
behind to secure a vital 2-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The
Gunners imploded to gift the Blues the lead on 31 minutes when keeper
Manuel Almunia collected a corner but threw the ball to Jose Bosingwa,
who put in a great cross from the right which the unlucky Johan
Djourou steered into his own goal.

But Van Persie equalised on 59 minutes when smashing a right-footed
effort into the top corner from the edge of the box, although replays
showed he was offside. He then added a second three minutes later to
stun Stamford Bridge when latching onto a fine header down by Emmanuel
Adebayor and hitting a great left-footed effort on the turn into the
bottom right-hand corner past the despairing dive of Petr Cech.

MAN CITY 0 - MAN UTD 1

Manchester United secured local bragging rights on Sunday as they
ground out a 1-0 win over neighbours Manchester City at Eastlands.
Wayne Rooney's solitary strike towards the end of the first half
proved to be enough, despite the Red Devils having Cristiano Ronaldo
sent off.

The visitors dominated possession from the off, creating the better of
the chances and forcing City onto the back foot. Rooney, Ronaldo and
Dimitar Berbatov all went close, with Joe Hart enduring a difficult
afternoon in the City goal.

It appeared that neither side would be able to force a breakthrough
before the interval, only for Hart to then parry a low Michael Carrick
effort straight to the feet of Rooney on 42 minutes. The Blues' cause
was then handed a timely boost on 68 minutes when Ronaldo was shown a
second yellow card following a bizarre handball incident, but they
were unable to restore parity.
