BAYERN MUNICH DEFEATS CHELSEA TO LIFT SUPER CUP

UEFA SUPER CUP: BAYERN MUNICH 2(5) - CHELSEA 2(4)

Bayern Munich won the UEFA Super Cup with a 5-4 penalty shoot-out victory over Chelsea following a 2-2 draw at Stadion Eden, Prague.

It was a repeat of the 2012 UEFA Champions League final, and the match was almost similar to the original as Bayern had the most possession. However, this time it was the Blues who opened the scoring through Fernando Torres with a wonderful first-time strike from Andre Schurrle's cut-back following a swift counter-attack.

Bayern dominated after the goal, but they had to wait until the second period to level when UEFA Best Player in Europe Franck Ribery succeeded where he had narrowly failed in the first period. The Frenchman cut in from the left before scoring with a fierce right-foot shot.

Ramires' 85th-minute red card gave Bayern the numerical advantage for extra time, but after Eden Hazard restored Chelsea's lead it took a last-gasp Javi Martínez strike to take the encounter to penalties. There Manuel Neuer saved the decisive kick from Romelu Lukaku to ensure Josep Guardiola collected the trophy for a third time as coach.

MALAYSIA CUP ROUND-UP

GROUP A
Sime Darby is the surprise leader of this group, while Johor and ATM are them chasing closely. The match on 31st August will be crucial for both teams. Selangor will face a daunting task as manager Irfan Bakti had left the team prematurely after their poor performances. All top three teams still having a good chance to play in this tournament as there are separated by only 1 point each.

GROUP B

PKNS is the hot favourite to qualify for the quarter final. Patrick Ronaldinho has been very instrumental after scoring 4 goals in the first 3 matches. JDT has recovered from their opening match slumps. T-Team may upset the top two, but they would need a miracle. Felda United has not been playing good football lately. They should just be happy to have played in this year Malaysia Cup competition.

GROUP C

Pahang and Kelantan are sharing the excitement to be at the top of this group. But their spots are not safe yet because Negeri Sembilan is not giving it away cheaply.  Terengganu may still have the chance mathematically, but the top three teams are too experience to suffer a melt down. Pahang needs more consistency, and Kelantan will need to be more positive in upcoming matches.

GROUP D

Perak is another unexpected leader to qualify for the next round. Some would say they are the title favourite! The win over Super League champions should inspire them to maintain their good run. Sarawak and Kedah may have to battle it out to be in the top two. Lions XII has not really playing up to the par with other Malaysia Cup contenders.

JDT WINS IN TERENGGANU

MALAYSIA CUP: T-TEAM 2 - JDT 3

Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) edged T-Team 3-2 in an exciting match at the Sultan Ismail Stadium on Tuesday night. The star-studded JDT were on the right track as they led 2-0 in the first half. A goal by Hadin Azman in the 23rd minute, and a spectacular bicycle kick by Safee Sali put the Southern Tigers a comfortable position.

However, the home side raised their game in the second half. They came back when Syamim Yahya headed home a Mazlizam Mohamad cross in the 48th minute. Though, JDT stretched the lead through Norshahrul Idlan Talaha in the 60th minute. As T-team tried for another fight back, their player Saiful Mustafa was given the marching order in the 73rd minute.

The match was not over when T-Team scored another goal in the 77th minute through substitute Fazuan Abdullah. But the time was running out for the east-coast team to find an equaliser. JDT claimed victory with a 3-2 score at the end of the match.

What's your DREAM CAR?

LIONS LOSS TO PERAK

MALAYSIA CUP: PERAK 1 - LIONS 0

Perak is just a step away from the next stage of the Malaysia Cup after defeating Lions at the Ipoh Stadium on Tuesday night. The 1-0 victory sent them to the top of Group D with 7 points. Meanwhile, the Singapore side is now on a brink of early eliminations from the Malaysia Cup.

Azlan Ismail was the hero for Perak last night when he scored the winning goal in the 9th minute. The win pushed Perak to be a strong contender for the prestigious title in the country's football.

A long throw to Paulo Rangel was headed further to unmarked Azlan. The striker didn't make mistake to tap home the winner. Perak defence was outstanding to keep the score line until full time.

SIME DARBY DEFEATS SELANGOR IN SELAYANG

MALAYSIA CUP: SIME DARBY 3 - SELANGOR 0

Selangor travelled to Selayang Stadium with only one intention, looking for a win. Irfan Bakti named Forkey Doe and Amri Yahyah in the first eleven.

Sime Darby was good in every area. Their midfielders were energetic, and defenders were rock solid. Karlo Primoric opened the scoring with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area.  And the Croatian got his second goal after 30 minutes. Both teams went into the break with Sime Darby leading 2-0.

Second half started with Selangor increased the pressure on Sime Darby's defence. The visitors are hungry for a win, but Sime Darby defenders were too good for Selangor forwards. Suddenly, Sime Darby's Mohamad Fazrul Hazli heads in for Sime Darby's third of the night. Selangor keep on attacking, but failed to find the net. The home side maintained their good play until the final whistle.
